Tambov authorities have labelled gardening as one of the top priorities of regional agriculture development in the short run. For the first time in recent years gardening receives support as of 335m RUB.
Alexander Nikitin, Governor of the Tambov region, has set the goal to establish 50 ha of perennial plantings in each region’s area. A total of 907 ha were established this year across the region, including 698 ha of intensive gardens.
As reported by the regional authorities, Tambov region has to top the list of fruit and berry producers in a couple of years. This is the focus area of import substitution policy initiated by the President Vladimir Putin.
Boosting the garden areas was promoted by reimbursement of establishing, operating and clearance costs. Another industry support trend is developing small farm gardening. 14 newbie farmers obtained grants totaling 20m RUB for establishing orchards this year.
In addition to financial support, gardening newcomers receive consulting assistance with regular seminars arranged in the region, highlighting the existing government support measures, theoretical issues and best practices, such as crop, variety and technology selection methods.
